I'll get a full review of this weekend's FA Cup action on here tomorrow but, for now, you'll have to make do with another new episode of Baker & Kelly from 2002.
You know what? Over the last couple of weeks or so, I'd rather forgotten about these Baker & Kelly downloads. Well, not so much "forgotten" as "repeatedly thought that I should really start putting these up again and, erm, not doing it". Anyway, it has been drawn to my attention that this blog has got a mention on their Facebook page (and hello, by the way, if you're stopping by from there), so I thought I may as well start putting up the last handful of them. Starting tonight. The list of the others is here (how to use this list is available here), and the new download is here (right-click and save as, as ever). Oh, and yes, I am on Facebook (and I'm a member of the Baker & Kelly group on there, too), but it does all scare me a little bit.
Anyway, glad to be of assistance.

As most of you are probably aware, the Baker & Kelly podcasts of the last few weeks have come to a shuddering halt with this announcement on their website. I do have an opinion on this (perhaps unsurprisingly), and I'll be putting up a link to that later on, although I'm not posting it on here because it's not strictly football-related. In the meanwhile, I'll put this up, so that you can access all the vintage Baker & Kelly that you need. These are the filenames for the folder that all of the MP3s of their shows are in (there are about five still to be uploaded - I'll get onto that in the new year). You can't click on these (it's just a screen-grab), but it you type:

Something to depress you and something to cheer you up this evening. First up, some of you may remember when we had a look at what was going on at Aylesbury United earlier in the year. Well, they're still homeless and this is what their former home, Buckingham Road, looks like now. Sorry stuff.

I'll try to sort something else out in the week, if I get the time. Again, I've got no date for this broadcast - only that it is from (I think) early in 2002.
Baker & Kelly 2002 - Part Two
For some reason, the Baker & Kelly podcast for this week hasn't been released. I've got no idea why - if I was guessing, I'd take a stab at some issue over sponsorship. If it was anything more serious or permanent, I dare say that some sort of announcement would have been made by now. In lieu of this, I might as well start putting up the Baker & Kelly United series from 2002 on BBC Radio Five Live. I'll carry on putting them up every Monday night, and there are nine of them in total. For the purposes of not upsetting by web hosts (and also because the file sizes are bigger), these are being put up on Rapidshare. They should work okay - let me know if there are any issues with them, and I will work a way around it.

The Last Post
Taking a day off in the middle of the week really plays havoc with my body clock, you see. A couple of quick thoughts on the first half hour of the Spurs match against Getafe in the UEFA Cup (and I would add that live football on the television on Thursday nights throws my body clock even further out of sync - I'm going to have to stay up and watch "Question Time" on BBC1 in order to realign my mental equilibrium, now): 1. Those big chairs that Spurs have for the management make Martin Jol look like he wearing a long, black wig. 2. Yes, Defoe was offside when Berbatov headed the "second" goal - so much so the the linesman flagged as soon as the ball was crossed. 3. Spurs should sell their soul to the devil (if they haven't done already) for a new goalkeeper.
Anyway, as I am trying to beef up the other place at the moment (and in the process, also demonstrating that I am not merely a one-dimensional football geek), so here's your Thursday night "Baker & Kelly", from the 12th December 1998.

Several years ago, a guy called John Bourn wrote a definitive history of football on regional ITV and stuck it up on the internet. It sat on my favourites for ages, and somehow or other it never got linked from this site. The last time I checked up, it had gone (it was hosted on the web space of Newcastle University, and I can only presume that he left there at some point and it merely expired). I managed to rescue it via the Wayback Machine and, having had a look around on the net trying to find him (to no avail), I've decided to take it upon myself to host it up on here over the next few weeks or so, embellished with a few video and MP3 links. So there's something to look forward to.
A few small announcements, this evening. First of all, I've opened a special email account just for this little blog. Look! There it is! On the right-hand side of this page! Now you can email me with any queries, questions, insults or suggestions. Anything you like, basically. A nice man has already emailed me to ask me if I'd like to buy some cheap Viagra. Secondly, you'll notice all sorts of buttons around here now. I said that was going to pimp this place up, and I wasn't joking. Anyway, press them. I've got no idea what half of them do.

United went to Portman Road in 1980 with Ipswich challenging for the First Division championship, and they contrived to get an absolute thrashing here. Commentary by my mate Gerry Harrison (only long-term readers will get that reference).
It's a very quiet week, this week, with only some Johnstones's Paint Trophy matches last night. That's the Auto Windscreens Shield in old money. Has it got an official name? Answers on a postcard, please. Tonight, there are four FA Trophy replays (Aveley vs Ilford, FC United Of Manchester vs Bradford Park Avenue, Newcastle Blue Star vs Woodley Sports and Redbridge vs Bury Town, on the off-chance that you care) and, well, that's just about your lot. So, while I'm unwinding and having a bite to eat, here's some more Baker & Kelly from October 1998. I've just got the one episode of this one (for all I know, the morning edition was cancelled to make sure for live Trivial Pursuit from Dudley). I'm still working on an open directory of these, by the way.

Two of the great dilemmas of my week are what to have for lunch - particularly when I am, as I am now, sitting on the sofa wrapped in a duvet. Anyway, I thought I'd take a quick moment to doff my cap to the England and France rugby union teams for dumping Australia and New Zealand out of the Rugby World Cup. They'll pretend that they didn't really care anyway, but we all know the truth.
There'll be some sort of full round up of the weekend's football on here later on today. I'm putting it back because the Premier League is, due to involvement in European football this week, largely playing this afternoon (Manchester United played yesterday, as did Aston Villa and West Ham United - neither of whom are likely to be troubling Europe again for the time being).
