The 50 year Munich anniversary has made a big impression even on the new players [perhaps a reason for the boys to go down at home against City?].

More importantly, while Kenyon led Chelsea for their medals, Charlton led United's boys -- again, a nod to history.

Moreover, despite the increase in mercenaries -- and I admit there are such players at United too -- we still have characters that are old fashioned.

Players like Giggs and Scholes don't take over 5 minutes to renew contract talks. Scholes even went over to console Chelsea players before getting into the celebrations. It can't be money that drives Fergie on despite all he's achieved in his career.

I agree: we can't have a divine right to a trophy based on history. But it's hard not to find a poetic parallel with history to explain United's win.

Again, saying United didn't deserve to win would be more a matter of opinion, because they could have been at least 2 up at half time. And as long as United stayed in the lead they would have always had spaces up front to exploit. Whilst, Chelsea's goal was much against the run of play and aided by some ricochets and players losing their footing. So again, it is a matter of ifs and buts.

Anyway, that's a rather long rant. Thank you for your time, and good job on the LIVE commentary [if I may add, you do have lots of free time on your hand -- and I would be surprised if you weren't already snapped up as a columnist for a mainstream media outlet.] :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
