Now, as I've said before, Accrington have struggled for crowds this season, but this is still frankly half-hearted.

If we exclude 1960 & 1961 (when Stanley were essentially a different club), they set a record of some sort last night: has there ever been an instance of a side winning its first ever match in any competition against a team that has previously been four-time winners of that competition?

(This was not my brilliant question, by the way - it came from another messageboard)

Also, it would appear that my researchers got it wrong. There's only one leg up to the semi-finals of this year's League Cup.200percenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14645801159434664430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10399764.post-1156264497386958672006-08-22T17:34:00.000+01:002006-08-22T17:34:00.000+01:00Well done Accrington! Try telling one of their fans this cup competition is worthless now.

Broadly speaking I agree with you though. It's largely a waste of time. A club like mine should maybe see it as a back-up route into European competition, but the only way that's really likely to happen is if one of the top 5 win it, thereby adding an extra league place to the European pot.

This competition has also featured what I consider to be my club's darkest hour, a 1st round exit against Mansfield at home infront of a, for us, meager 11,000 fans.Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08448449775220795372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10399764.post-1156188366496937842006-08-21T20:26:00.000+01:002006-08-21T20:26:00.000+01:00Ah, well... it'll cover them never having won it, ...Ah, well... it'll cover them never having won it, Stu!
